I believe that every child has within themselves the capability to overcome obstacles and solve their problems. Sometimes they just need someone to help guide them in the right direction though, and that's where I come in. My goal is not to solve the problems of the students I see, but rather to equip them with the tools and skills they need to solve their own problems. I offer a 1-6 week individual counseling program for children referred to me by their teacher, parent, or self-referral. While individual counseling is offered, it is usually the second step in the counseling process as small group counseling is typically more effective. That being said, certain circumstances may warrant immediate individual counseling.
I use a blend of Solution Focused Therapy, Choice Theory/Reality Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to meet the needs of the students I work with. In order for individual counseling to be effective it is very important that parents also play a role in the process. I firmly believe in involving parents every step of the way and maintain regular contact with the parents of students that I am counseling. That being said, there must also be a level of confidentiality established between the student and myself in order for counseling to be effective. I will be happy to discuss confidentiality and the its limits with you individually. While I look forward to the opportunity to provide counseling services for your student please understand that the focus is always related to their education. After meeting with you and your child I may suggest that they see an outside provider for concerns not related to their academics.
